Acuña Returns from Hamstring Injury to Help Braves Defeat Marlins 8-4
Ronald Acuña Jr. doubled, walked twice and scored three runs in his first game since May 2 as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins 8-4 on Tuesday. Acuña batted leadoff as the designated hitter in the matchup between the NL East-leading Braves and the Marlins.
Mauricio Dubón delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning after Marlins reliever Calvin Faucher walked Mike Yastrzemski, Ha-Seong Kim and Acuña to load the bases. Matt Olson followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-4, while Michael Harris II hit a leadoff homer in the sixth to tie the score at 4-4.
Atlanta starter Martin Pérez struck out a career-high 10 batters in five innings and allowed four runs. Miami’s Braxton Garrett gave up two runs in three innings in his second start since elbow surgery, and the Marlins scored three times in the bottom of the first to erase an early 2-0 deficit.
Left-hander Chris Sale is scheduled to start for the Braves on Wednesday against Miami right-hander Janson Junk.
