Danhausen Presents Mayor Mamdani With Parade Demands as Knicks Lead NBA Finals

WWE performer Danhausen has issued a public list of demands to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, insisting his self-styled "uncursing" of the New York Knicks receive formal recognition should the franchise win the NBA championship. The demands arrived as the Knicks moved to a 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals following a Friday night victory.

Writing on X, Danhausen - whose character is billed as "very nice, very evil" and operates within an absurdist vaudevillian persona - outlined several conditions for the mayor. Chief among them was a giant floating balloon in his likeness for any victory parade, one capable of dropping pizza and hot dogs over the crowd. He also requested placement in the parade procession between the Snoopy and Garfield balloons, and called on Mamdani to secure an apartment for Oscar the Grouch, the Muppet character who resides in a garbage can, so the puppet could "get off the streets and turn his life around."

Danhausen's "curse" has become a recurring storyline across professional sports. Most recently, he appeared on the video board at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights, directing his curse toward Carolina. Vegas won that game 5-4 in double overtime and held a 2-1 series lead at the time of the appearance. Danhausen had previously indicated the Hurricanes could be "uncursed" in exchange for "human monies." The New York Mets were also subjected to a cursing earlier in the year; Danhausen has stated that particular curse has not yet been fully lifted.

With the Knicks holding a 2-0 advantage in the NBA Finals, the franchise is two wins from its first championship in more than five decades. Game 3 of the series moves to San Antonio, where the Spurs will look to avoid falling into an insurmountable deficit. Whether Mayor Mamdani intends to respond to the balloon demands remains publicly unaddressed.
